SCRAPBOOK CLUB
| ICS Scrapbook Club is offered to all 6th through 8th grade students. Students are encouraged to use their creativity to enhance captured memories, including photographs and paper souvenirs (report cards, ticket stubs, maps, menus, etc). Experienced and novice scrapbookers are encouraged to join, and all are asked to share their creative ideas. The Scrapbook Club offers a hands-on approach to creativity and design combined with ideas from magazines and student examples. Adult supervisors offer encouragement, along with instruction on proper tool and supply usage. The students meet in Meehan Hall for 1 hour every other week after school. The Scrapbook Club offers the students a creative outlet that can last a lifetime. Many students use club time to make gifts or cards for family and friends. Sharing ideas allows students to learn from each other and to learn to offer (and accept) constructive criticism. The Scrapbook Club truly embodies our mission statement that each child is a unique creation of God. Each member of the club is encouraged to explore and strengthen newfound creative skills. The fact that no two scrapbooks are alike aligns with the idea that no two students are alike. The best part of this club is that students learn there is no right or wrong way to scrapbook. Every persons scrapbook is unique, reflecting personality differences in a positive, creative way. |

DRAMA CLUB
The Drama Club meets Thursdays from 2:00 to 4:00 throughout the school year. Every student is invited to join whether he or she are interested in acting, props, costumes, or stage crew. Drama starts the year by inviting students in grades six to eight to sign-up. Members from the previous year are invited to return, and the newly-interested are invited to join. No previous experience necessary. There are approximately thirty to forty members at any given time. The first few months of the year are devoted to theatre games, improvisations, and skits. These not only develop acting skills and camaraderie, but also allow for fun and relaxing. Starting in December, the club selects and begins rehearsing a play or musical that is performed in the spring. Whether they prefer to act, do props and costumes, or do stage crew for the play, each student has the opportunity to express their creative side.
Ms. Hanlan has been the Drama Clubs director since the 2004-2005 school year. In April of 2005, the club performed the mini-musical, The Magical Land of Oz, in which a Kansas girl finds herself torn from her home and dropped in a fairy-tale land of Oz. In 2006, the club chose Cinderellas Glass Slipper, in which poor Cinderella deals with her mean step-mother and silly stepsisters, Brunhilda and Cleopatra even as she dreams of going to the Princes ball. For 2007, the club has chosen Treasure Island, in which a young boy/girl is whisked away on a treasure hunt for an infamous pirates buried treasure. |
