Mrs. Denise Shipp
Upper School (Grades 6 - 8) Math Teacher
This is my 4th year teaching at Immaculate Conception School. This year I am teaching 6th grade Math, 7th and 8th grade Pre-Algebra, and 8th grade Algebra.

After a 17 year career as a Software Engineer, I began substitute teaching in all grade levels and subject areas. It didn’t take me long to realize that Mathematics was my favorite subject to teach. I’ve always loved Math and it’s everywhere, no matter what career you choose! I have a B.A. in Mathematics from Assumption College, and a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from WPI. I often tell my students that teaching is my “second career”, but I truly believe I have finally found what I was meant to do!

On a personal note, I have been married for 19 years to my husband Mark, and have two wonderful daughters ages 13 and 10. We live in Northboro and have been members of St. Bernadette Church for almost 15 years. When I’m not playing taxi-driver for my girls, I enjoy reading, watching reality TV, and spending time socializing with family and friends.

Science - Grades 6 to 8
This is my 17th year teaching science here at I.C. School. Prior to coming to I.C., I taught science for 15 years in the public school sector. As a member of Immaculate Conception Church, I am proud to be a teacher at my own parish’s school.

I received a BS in biology from UMass and a Masters in Natural Science from WPI. When I am not busy with school work, I enjoy going to our students’ basketball games and our former students’ volleyball games, reading mystery novels, doing yard work, going to the gym with Mrs. Mauro, and being with family and friends in general.

Language Arts / Literature - Grade 8
Math - Grade 7
Religion - Grade 6
I have been teaching at Immaculate Conception for over twenty years and am also an active member of the parish. I graduated from Salem State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I still continue my education by taking graduate courses.

Catholic education is very important to me. My three children are graduates of Immaculate Conception, and all of them continued in Catholic education through college. At the current time I have two grandsons enrolled here, and soon a third one will be attending.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and camping.

Social Studies - Grades 6 to 8
Religion - Grade 7
I have been teaching at Immaculate Conception School for more than 20 years and have had a Grade 7 homeroom for most of that time. A product of Catholic school education, I am a proud graduate of Immaculate Conception and Hudson Catholic High, as well as a life-long parishioner. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Secondary Education from Framingham State College. I continue my education by taking graduate level courses in History, Social Studies, and Education. I hold two Massachusetts State certifications in History 5-9, and History 9-12.

I love teaching Middle School age students because they are both inquisitive and enthusiastic learners. I believe that learning Social Studies enables students to become informed, effective global citizens of the twenty-first century.

Spanish - Grades 6 to 8
Literature - Grade 7
This is my 4th year teaching at Immaculate Conception School. This year I am teaching Spanish in grades 6, 7 and 8 and Literature in grade 7.

I grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts in a French Canadian family, hearing and speaking French both at home and at St. Joseph Elementary School. It wasn’t until I was in High School, however, that I began to learn Spanish and I discovered that I loved that language even more than French.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of Lowell (now U Mass—Lowell) and my Master of Arts degree in Spanish from Boston College. My work as a teacher began in Hollis, New Hampshire, but I spent several years at home raising my 5 children (now ages 26 to 18) before returning to my career in 1999. I currently teach part time at St. Michael School in Hudson and at Immaculate Conception School. I really enjoy working with middle school students and introducing them to the Spanish language.

My husband Owen and I live in Westborough, Massachusetts and we are members of Saint Luke the Evangelist parish.
